Investment Advisory and Fiduciary Services
J.M. Arbour offers fee-based investment advisory services. On this model, instead of charging commissions and sales charges on investment recommendations, you pay a set fee that is equal to a percentage amount of the assets under management (AUM).
In our opinion, fee-based investment advisory is the most transparent way a client can work with a professional money manager. It only makes sense to work with someone who is truly incentivized to grow your money and whose goals are aligned with your own.
As fee based advisors, the professionals at J.M. Arbour are held to the fiduciary standard, which mandates that an investment advisor acts in the best interest of the client in making recommendations of securities. Simply put, an investment advisor must provide advice and investment recommendations that he or she deems best for the client based on the information the client has provided. When making decisions that are best for the client, a Fiduciary must adhere to the duties of loyalty and care.
In accordance with the fiduciary standard, an investment advisor is required to provide disclosures to the client before entering into any contracts to provide investment advice. These disclosures discuss important topics such as the investment advisor’s qualifications, service offerings, compensation and the range of fees, methods of analysis, and any records of disciplinary actions or possible conflicts of interest.
Lack of transparency and conflicts of interest plague the world of investment advice. Choosing to work with an investment advisor who will act as your fiduciary helps to eliminate the common problems associated with salespeople who are product focused and commissioned-based.
Because a fiduciary is required, by law, to fully disclose how they are paid as well as any possible conflicts of interest, you as the consumer are in a better position to make a well-rounded and informed decision regarding your investments.
In the event that insurance products are necessary to complete a comprehensive financial plan, the professionals at J.M. Arbour are prepared. With access to the independent marketplace, we truly have the ability to shop for the products you need; therefore ensuring access to high quality companies, strong product design, and competitive pricing.
Insurance programs offered through J.M. Arbour include, but are not limited to:
Long Term Care
Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, HIPAA forms, Personal Property Memorandums, etc. What does it all mean? Which of these should you have and why? When should each be updated? Are your assets protected in all the ways you want them to be? Are your assets structured to go to your loved ones in the most cost and tax efficient manner possible? Having the answers to these questions can sometimes be worth its weight in gold.
At J.M. Arbour, we know just how important these documents are to the people who own them and the people they serve. We have seen firsthand the difference between those who have their legal affairs in order, and those who do not. That is why we proudly partner with the legal professionals at both Nale Law in Waterville, Maine and Hopkinson & Abbondanza, located in Portland and Bath, Maine.
